Top and Bottom Platens: These should have clamping pressures of 10,000 pounds or more so they are held together when pressure is being applied to the thermoformed part.

I found that after I placed the plastic over the mold, I could use the heat gun to heat the spots which did not get sucked down all the way, so I was still able to get all 12 pieces out of this machine.

Virtually all thermoplastics can be supplied as sheet and vacuum formed. The more commonly used materials are listed below.

The clamp frame needs to be sufficiently powerful enough to ensure the plastic sheet is firmly held during the forming process. It can handle the thickest material likely to be formed on the machine – up to 6mm with a single heater and up to 10mm with the twin heater machines.

The process involves heating a plastic sheet until soft and then draping it over a mould. A vacuum is applied sucking the sheet into the mould.
